Leadership Coaching for
Physicians Facing Career Challenges
Workplace challenges can be an isolating and damaging experience impacting a physician’s personal and professional identity. This often leads to a sense of being on an unsteady surface, or even falling overboard. Finding a trusted guide to support you through difficult times can mean the difference between being thrown a life raft and being lost at sea.
Let’s work together to get you back on an even keel, anchored to your values, with medical leadership coaching tailored to your needs.
As a seasoned physician, ICF Associate Certified Coach (ACC), Narrative Coach®, and Certified WE-I Practitioner, I help you to:
- Enhance leadership skills and effectiveness by walking with you through professional conflicts or challenges.
- Achieve personal and professional growth by facilitating deep self-reflection and realizing personal insight to enable you to develop resilience and coping strategies.
- Understand and strengthen your position to better navigate organizational dynamics and build your influence.
- Gain clarity and direction on your career and personal goals by identifying and overcoming obstacles impeding progress.
- Set goals based on your values to achieve short-term and long-term objectives.
The Coaching Toolbox
A commitment to deep listening allows me to employ specific methodologies and tools in my practice, depending on your circumstances. Your coaching experience may benefit from the combination of traditional and Narrative Coaching, augmented by the WE-I instrument, to understand your instinctive reactions.
Traditional Coaching is ideal when you have a clear objective in mind, such as working to an important target. Goal setting, time management, and holding you accountable all contribute to produce measurable results to support your professional or personal development.
Narrative Coaching, pioneered by Dr. David Drake, is often more effective in situations where the exact issue is unclear. It involves helping you to explore where you are now, and grounding your story and yourself before experimenting with new perspectives or storylines, and then building a solution to take back to work or life. It can lead to profound shifts in thinking and behaviour.
The WE-I instrument from Learning In Action offers a unique approach by allowing you to observe how you react in the moment, under pressure, in conflict, and in relationship. It provides a deep understanding of how you will show up in a moment of conflict, empowering you to make meaningful adjustments to handle similar situations effectively in the future.
A Full-Circle Philosophy
In every career a little rain must fall.
You may have more options than you think.
My practice reflects a three-phased approach to coaching or intervention:
- Identifying early intimations of trouble by understanding subtle signs and red flags before getting into deep water;
- Helping you develop strategies and approaches to enable you to navigate turbulent waters where you may feel you’ve lost control; and
- Recovering after the event and learning from it, making a positive contribution to your practice, your team, and your career.
Each client benefits from a personalized coaching plan and can feel secure knowing that safe support is readily available.
Short same-day or next-day sessions may be offered for urgent issues.
